Interning at WAMU 88.5 News in DC

Starting June 1 I've been interning at public radio station WAMU 88.5 News. So far I've reported and produced a few stories, including one about the security guard who died from the Holocaust Museum shooting. We interns are also working on a series, “The New Economic Reality for Young Americans”.

Legislative News Update

This is an example of some of the work I'm currently doing as a Legislative News Reporter on the 61st Montana Legislature. My co-reporter and I analyze and research important bills and we produce 4 bite stories, an update of what happened during the day, a preview of what will happen the next day and a package of the big story of the day. We attend committee hearings and floor sessions and interview legislators, the governor, and other governmental officials.

I wrote and produced this piece while working for the college radio station in Missoula, KBGA in 2008. This piece was also included in my 8th place 2008 Radio Features Competition Entry for the Hearst Journalism Awards.

I wrote and produced this piece while working for Montana Public Radio. This piece helped me earn my second Hearst Journalism Award. For 2007 and 2008 I earned 8th place Radio Features Competition.

Native American Research Lab

I reported this story. This and the last post were done as part of a class UM News. We completed the stories in a week. They were used as part of a broadcast for KPAX and posted online at umnewsmontana.blogspot.com.

African Jewelry

I wrote and helped produce this story. My photographer/editor traveled to Africa with Debbie Lee and captured the footage of the children in the orphanage.
